A Message from Bay Medical Foundation's Chairman

Since Bay Medical Foundation's formation as a committee in 1977, then becoming a legal entity in 1979, and now as a mature charitable community organization thirty-some years later, it is good to reflect on what is accomplished by our board and staff through the generosity of our growing donor base.

Bay Medical Foundation was never established as an "end to itself," but rather as a means to channel contributions in support of community health care.

As the eighth chairman of the Foundation, I am privileged to witness the discussions that take place at various events and committee meetings and the interaction at board meetings. The whole purpose is to advance the organization for the sake of constantly providing tools necessary for the caregivers at Bay Regional Medical Center, Bay Special Care Hospital, and McLaren Homecare & Hospice (primarily Brian's House).

These "tools" have been in the form of sophisticated diagnostic and treatment technology, basic equipment used at a patient's bedside on a daily basis, and educational programs to increase knowledge and understanding.

They are as broad and impactful as the Helen M. Nickless Volunteer Clinic in which volunteer practitioners and lay people provide care and hope for those who do not have medical or mental health insurance coverage.

Earlier this year the Foundation celebrated the opening of the Orlen J. Johnson, MD Health Sciences Library at Bay Regional Medical Center. The comfortable space with adjacent conference rooms brings better and quicker access to medical education to our physicians and others. Early next year we will open a Simulation Teaching & Learning Lab where multidisciplinary teams can join in a common work environment and rehearse common clinical scenarios and critical incidents for improved real patient outcomes.

None of the areas highlighted in this publication would have been possible without the dedicated Foundation leadership-and, most importantly, the donors throughout all the years.

Gratefully,

Michael Stodolak, Chairman
Bay Medical Foundation
