NEW GLUCOSE MONITOR AT BAY REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
Bay Regional Medical Center’s Diabetes Education Department is pleased to announce that Medtronic has introduced a new product for glucose monitoring called the iPro CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor). The tiny, lightweight and easy to use glucose monitor is able to receive up to 288 readings in 24 hours in relation to the patient’s exercise, meals and insulin.
Patients wear the monitor for 3-5 days, which helps fine-tune the patient’s specific diabetic treatment (as opposed to fingersticks and A1C testing alone). Instead of an implanted monitor, the product has a small glucose sensor at the end of the recorder that is placed under the skin. Once the monitor is inserted, patients are encouraged to go on with life as usual, continuing to take blood glucose readings as recommended by their healthcare provider, as well as recording daily events like insulin, exercise and meals in their logbook.
The iPro CGM is ergonomically shaped to prevent pulling, pinching, or tugging with movement. The monitor is small enough to be worn discreetly under clothing and is waterproof, allowing patients to shower, bathe, and swim without worry.
For more information on the iPro CGM, please contact Autumn Methner or Linda Houthoofd, Diabetes Education, at (989) 894-9528 or visit the Medtronic website at www.medtronicdiabetes.com.
