Bay Regional Medical Center's cancer program ensures that patients who are treated for cancer have available modern diagnostic tools, including accurate staging, up-to-date treatment, and ongoing quality assessment. The patient’s physician has responsibility for care, and actively participates as a team member.
As a member of the Great Lakes Cancer Institute, Bay Regional provides patients with access to the latest treatment options without having to leave home for most cancer care. Medical chart documentation, showing physician involvement in the care process, contains full American Joint Commission on Cancer (AJCC) stages initialed by the physician, and includes a case summary and discharge plan by the physician.
Cancer conferences are held weekly to meet the requirements of a comprehensive program. Ten percent (10%) of the annual caseload is discussed with all major sites being addressed. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of cancer conferences' caseload is prospective to influence the current management of a patient's care. Representatives from all appropriate medical disciplines are present and encouraged to participate.
