Regional Dialysis Services

Twenty million Americans have some form of chronic kidney disease and many do not know it. For many of these patients, dialysis is the only hope of survival. Regional Dialysis Services brings this vital service to patients throughout Northeast Michigan. Regional Dialysis Services (RDS) was established in 1993 as a joint effort among MidMichigan Health and Bay Regional Medical Center. Regional Dialysis Services is managed by Gratiot Medical Center, an affiliate of MidMichigan Health, which has over 40 years of experience in the management and delivery of dialysis services and has received Amgen's award stating this service as one of the top three dialysis centers in the nation. Sharing staff, resources, and experience in hemodialysis has made it possible for Regional Dialysis Services to bring this vital program to patients in four mid-Michigan locations.

  • Bay City
  • Gladwin
  • Midland
  • West Branch

Bay Regional Medical Center and MidMichigan Health also jointly provide dialysis services to patients in the thumb through Thumb Area Dialysis Center in Cass City.

Regional Dialysis Services is licensed by the Michigan Department of Community Health and is a Medicare participant. RDS physicians, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, patient care technicians, social workers, and dietitians work closely with patients and families to provide state-of-the-art dialysis. Equipment specialists are also on staff to facilitate technical support of the units.

The Regional Dialysis Services team takes a multidisciplinary approach to dialysis, coordinating each patient's treatment according to his or her individual needs. Carlos Marchena, M.D. serves as medical director of the facilities in Bay City, Cass City and West Branch.

RDS offers a full scope of dialysis services, including hemodialysis, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis and HDF, which shortens treatment time.

With care coordinated and supervised by skilled professionals, patients are ensured the highest quality of dialysis treatment.

Regional Dialysis Services provides state-of-the-art dialysis allowing for faster, more efficient treatment. Most patients attend three to four-hour dialysis sessions three times a week.

Patients are monitored closely to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment. Close assessment and thorough evaluation of each patient dictates appropriate changes in treatment plans.
